Tell me Something?

How come the one you want is never the one that wants you? Or more accurately, the one that wants you is a great big giant, creepy, slightly stalkery loser?

Think of it like this. You go into a shoe store. It is an expensive shoe store, one you normally only look at the window wistfully, and never go in. But today, you are feeling adventurous, risky, a little bit daring. You haven't been in the store 5 minutes when you spot them. They are beautiful, perhaps they are red, with the perfect shaped heel, and exactly the right height. They aren't too pointy, nor too round. They are simply the perfect shoes.

You try them on - they have them in your size. They fit, but maybe there's a little voice nagging in the back of your head that says they aren't quite perfect, and actually, they are probably going to hurt your feet. But you buy them anyway. You pay an exorbitant amount, because you think the shoes are perfect, and you don't care. You think if you have the shoes everything in your wardrobe will be perfect.

So you get them home. And you try them on with everything and they look great.

But. You unveil the shoes on a big night out. And you hate the shoes. They pinch. You have a blister on your big toe. And your little toe. And at least two other toes. On both feet. Everyone says how beautiful the shoes are, and through gritted teeth you exclaim how beautiful they are, and what a bargain, and how good they feel.

So you take them home. You wonder if you can reshape your feet to make them fit. Perhaps you give them another trial run - but only to work where you can sit down all day and only have to walk in the door. But you find yourself taking them off under your desk and rubbing your feet, and thinking GOD THESE THINGS HURT.

So you retire them. You put them back into the wardrobe. Right in the back, because you don't want anyone to see them, because they might want to borrow them, and you don't want anyone else to have them. You bring them out occasionally, and wistfully try them on to see if, maybe, your feet have changed shape.

They won't have.

So you go back to your old faithfuls. The ones that aren't quite as glamorous, have a slightly lower heel. The shoes you have had for months, and wear to work everyday, cos they match everything, and fit and don't give you blisters. You like them ok, but they aren't the dream shoe. They don't get comments, they don't make you feel better about yourself, they're just there.

You wonder if maybe they are the shoe for you. But you don't really want them to be, because they aren't quite enough - they just aren't the other shoes.

...

Ah, shoes as a metaphor for life. Cos that's never been done before.

In other news, the giving up diet coke isn't going very well. Some might even say badly.

And in other excellent news....roll on monday when cricket is back! Bet you can't wait for all the photos to start appearing again.
